By Sherly Isaac

In the last weeks we saw how God's punishment came upon those who tried to persecute or kill God's anointed men and women, not only in Old Testament times, but also in the New Testament times the same thing continue to happen.
In the book of the Acts of the Apostles 12th chapter we read about Herod the king who thought himself to be above God. He even found pleasure in killing Jesus' disciples. In the whole chapter we read about what he did and to what tragic end he came to.

Act 12:1-3, "Now about that time Herod the king stretched out [his] hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread."

Thus he killed many including John the Baptist and now he captured Peter also. But God rescued Peter and we read about his miraculous escape from the prison in Act 12:4-11, "So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, "Arise quickly!" And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals"; and so he did. And he said to him, "Put on your garment and follow me." So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. And when Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people."

Further we read in Act 12:18-20, "Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there."

Then in Act 12:20-24, "Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food by the king's country. So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God grew and multiplied."

This was the end of Herod who tried to kill the anointed of God. Yes, my friend it is a terrible thing to do anything against the Children of God, that is, those who are saved (born again) by the blood of Jesus. And by persecuting they bring curse on their own lives.

But by humbling themselves at the feet of Jesus repenting from thier sins and inviting Him in their life they can flee from the wrath of God. It takes only a step of humbleness to come to Jesus.

Who can go to Heaven?

By Sherly Isaac

At one or another point in one's life each and every person asks this question, "Who can go to heaven?" or "How can I enter into heaven?" There is a psalm of David which very beautifully explains who may abide in heaven. We read in Psalms 15:1-3, "A Psalm of David. LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;"

When we go deep in this psalm we can understand that a person who is righteous, holy, sinless, a person who does not do evil can be able to stay in heaven others cannot.

Bible gives clear explanation that we should be holy because without holiness no one can see God. And in John 8:21, Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come." By saying this Jesus made it clear that if we want to go where He was going then we need to be sin free. Again He said in John 5:24, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."

Jesus gave His precious life for you and me so that we could come out of our sins and live a holy life. If your sins are not forgiven, you cannot enter in heaven. But Jesus shed His precious blood so that we could be sin free. Today you can come to Jesus and just receive the salvation of your souls, forgiveness of your sins and everlasting life.

Yes, there is a heaven and there is a hell. Only those who have received forgiveness of their sins will enter in heaven, not those who think that they are righteous, not those who do good works, not those who live a dignified life but only those whose sins are forgiven and those who are living a holy life. My friend, you could be in a good Bible based Church, you could be born in a very pious home but unless you repent from your sins and turn to Jesus, there is no way you could enter in heaven.

If you want the assurance of heaven, please pray this prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, please forgive and forget all my sins. Today, wash my sins away with your precious blood. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Please come into my life and change my life. From now on, I will walk in your ways. I thank you Jesus for giving me eternal life and a place in heaven. I give all the glory to Jesus, Amen.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
