The message of the first pastor was the message of Repentance and salvation.

By Sherly Isaac

The message of the first pastor was the message of Repentance and salvation. In the book of Acts 2nd chapter Peter stood among the people and preached the message of salvation. We read in Act 2:21, "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." And in Act 2:38, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

This was the message of Peter the first pastor. Every message started with this key word "Repent". The message was not of Peter, Paul or the disciples, but of Jesus Christ Himself. Wherever Jesus went He preached the message of repentance. Repent from your sins and turn to God this was the central theme of the ministry of Jesus and His disciples. Jesus started His ministry saying Repent as we read in Mat 4:17, "From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."" When Jesus started preaching in His first message as well as in most of His messages later on, He urged people to repent from their sins.

Today most of the Churches believe in preaching polished messages trying not to hurt the people. They would like to talk about everything and anything but not about repentance of sin. This is the tragic reality of today's churches. Many believe that God is so loving and caring that He will not condemn anybody to hell but He will give everyone direct entry to heaven. If this was true Jesus and His disciples need not have to preach the message of repentance and of turning from the sins. Why Jesus had to waste His time and of others preaching the messages of repentance? Further Jesus preached about hell more than any other preacher of the New and Old Testaments. Whenever Jesus preached, the message was for repentance from sin, Mark 1:15, "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

This was the life of Jesus and His disciples. They preached with concern for the souls of the people that they could be saved from hell fire repenting from their sins.

When we repent from our sins and invite Jesus in our lives, He forgives and forgets all our sins. He gives us a new life - a life full of peace and joy. He also gives the assurance of eternal life that when we die, we will be with Him in heaven. But this was not all that God offered us. When Jesus was about to leave this world for going to heaven, He promised His disciples that He will be sending another helper who will always be with us. He sent Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Peter explained the experience of filling with Holy Spirit in Act 2nd chapter. He also said in Act 2:38, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

If you are a saved person, you are eligible to receive the Holy Ghost. And the Holy Spirit will lead you, guide you, speak to you, tell you what to do and He will also reveal to you the future as we read in Jhn 16:13, "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." It was Holy Spirit who gave power to the ordinary disciples to preach the Gospel with boldness and power. Wherever they went they preached with might and power and multitudes believed in Jesus. Mighty signs and wonders were done through them because of the mighty power of the Holy Spirit.

The same Holy Spirit when He comes and dwells in us, He gives us power. Jesus said in Act 1:8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

If you believe, repent and turn to Jesus, He will bless you with eternal life. If you are thirsty for Him, He will satisfy you with Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Jhn 4:14, "but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

Jehovah-Jireh - God is Our Provider -Part 2

Gen 22:14, "And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, "In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided."

This was not the first time God provided a solution in the Bible but it is God's nature to provide for us. We can read stories after stories from the Bible that when people called upon His name He provided for them. He fulfilled their needs, He wiped away their tears, He heard their prayers and came rushing for their rescue. That is the nature of the God of the Bible.

Hagar was tired and heartbroken because of the steps taken by her mistress towards her. She and her son were left alone in the dessert. The water she had brought with her was used up and her son was dying because of thirst. All the calamities she had seen till that time appeared to be smaller than what she was facing now to see her son dying in front of her eyes. Not knowing what to do, where to turn to, she lifted her voice and wept. Bible says in Gen 21:17, "And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, "What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is." This is the love and compassion of God. He heard the cry of a destitute woman and her son who had no one to help. Hagar and her son's cry reached the very heavens and moved God to reply from heaven.

Are you crying today? Are you afraid thinking what to do, where to go... who will help me? My friend, there is a God who cares for you and He is ready to help you. He is ready to provide solution for your problem. He is ready to meet all your needs. Just look to Him, His name is Jesus.

When Jesus was in this world and whenever He saw a person sick or in need, He was moved with compassion and performed miracles for them. He healed the sick, raised the dead and wiped away the tears of people. That was the love and compassion of Jesus. That love and compassion is still flowing through Him for each and every person who calls upon Him. God said in Psa 91:15, He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him." Psalmist says in Psa 86:7, "In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me."

He is a prayer answering God. He is a God who provides for us and there is no lack in His storehouse. He has overflowing supply which is not going to cease as long as His children are in this world. Are you His child? Have you become His child by the shed blood of Jesus? If not, come to Jesus. Accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior and become His sons and daughters.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
