A few months back I was sitting and doing some work in the drawing room. TV news was on. I was not paying much attention to the news. But then the news came saying that a man hired a hit man to kill his wife. Then they showed the picture of that man who wanted his wife dead. I stopped my work and started watching. I was completely shocked when I saw the whole news. The reason was money. He wanted his wife’s one million dollar life insurance money. The man was trying to hire a real hit man but without his knowledge he was talking to an undercover police officer. Finally police arrested the man and put him in jail. When his wife came to know about her husband’s action she was completely shocked. She was all the time saying that her husband would not do this. But police had video taped the evidence to prove their point. Just for money, he ruined three lives, his own, his wife’s and his three year old son’s. For money people do unthinkable things and put themselves in trouble. Even many who profess themselves to be christians go wrong when money comes in between them. Bible says in 1 Tim 6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”But on the other side Bible says that when God gives money, He does not add sorrow with it. Prov 10:22, “The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”I was reading the book of Deuteronomy. This was not the first time I had read this portion, but this time when I read, I was completely amazed seeing the blessings God has stored for those who obey Him and walk in His ways. Deuteronomy 28th chapter lists fourteen verses of blessings that cover all the areas of our lives. First two verses says, Deu 28:1-2, “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God:”In short God will bless you beyond measure and make you above all. You will be prosperous and blessed in the land. Your offspring will be blessed, your land would be blessed. He will give rain in due season. There would be plenty and He will bless all the work of your hands You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. He will give you peace and victory over enemies. And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God… and are careful to observe them. So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. These are the promises of God for those who obey Him and observe His commandments. Many run after money all their lives, they could be seen running after money but never get satisfied with their money. In America many immigrants come and start very hard life. Many work two or three jobs in two three shifts. When they are able to have some money and are able to settle down a little bit, they realize that they are no longer able to enjoy their money because of cholesterol and so many health problems. At this stage many find out that their children leave homes to live with their partners and nobody is there to care for the poor parents who worked so hard to see the good future of their children. This is the pathetic story of many immigrants living in USA. But God promised blessed future to those who obey Him and observe all His commandments. You can have a blessed and secure future, if you obey God and walk in His ways. He will not add sorrow with your money.
Power of the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."Jesus promised to send Holy Spirit when He would go from this world and He explained what the power of the Holy Spirit would be like. He told His disciples that they shall be witnesses to Him even to the end of the earth. In the Gospel of Matthew John describes in Mat 3:11, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”What Holy Spirit and fire would do in our lives? Years ago I read that the person who invented the train run by steam engine was making tea one morning. While tea was on fire, he was reading his newspaper. A few moments later he heard the sound of boiling tea and saw that when steam was escaping from the narrow open lid, it was pushing the lid up a bit. He looked in amazement that steam had this much power to push the lid up. Finally he invented the steam engine. When coal, wood or oil are burned in the firebox it heats the water and creates steam. That steam would be sent through a cylinder to run the wheels. This steam works like a force of energy to run this big machine. When God baptizes a person with Holy Spirit and Fire the same thing happens. The fire of the Holy Spirit creates energy to become a bold witness for Jesus even to the end of the earth. When your life is in fire, you cannot sit and watch people dying and going to hellfire. You will stand up and do something to save those souls. Many Christians are in this world who go without the power of the Holy Spirit and Fire. That is the reason why they fade away very soon. When problems come, they feel themselves as very much vulnerable and feeble to face it so that they leave the ministry and run away. That is the reason why Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now”( Acts 1:4-5 ).If you want to do effective and powerful ministry you need the power of the Holy Spirit and fire. Without the power of the Holy Spirit and fire it is very difficult and hard to work in this evil world. Disciples of Jesus waited for the power from above and on the day of Pentecost they got filled with the Holy Spirit. The fire of the Holy Spirit sat upon each of them. Their lives were completely changed. They shook the world though they were ordinary fishermen. The same God is ready to fill you with His power and with His fire. Are you a born again Christian? You need the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Before you start ministry, wait for the power from above. And when Holy Spirit and fire will come upon you, you will also be able to shake the world for Jesus.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 9th Sep. 2008
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 9th Sep. 2008
